Dear Mr. Daniels & Ms Freeman,
The Board of Health was called to 332 Pleasant Street for
complaints of health hazards, our office was contacted after they
made their inspection because of various Building Code violations.
Our records indicate that you are the owners of the property. I
made a site inspection and found the following violations which
must be corrected. They are:
1. Exterior stairs which provide a second means of egress are not
to code, baluster spacing on guard rails shall not be larger than
6 inches. The physical condition of the stairs are a hazard, they
are rotted out and pose risk to anyone who uses them. In the event
of fire the tenants trying to escape or firemen attempting to fight
fire would be put in danger because of the poor condition of
stairs.
2 . Smoke detectors missing in common areas.
3 . Bare bulbs exposed in hallways
4 . Hallways filled with trash impeding egress from apartments and
creating a fire hazard.
5. Handrails missing from front porch stairs.
6. Front stairs in poor condition, treads loose in disrepair.
7 . Foundation of house rear right side must be repaired.
8 . Windows broken in upstairs attic area allowing rain, snow to
enter house.
The work must be performed by a licensed contractor and building
permits are required. You have ten (10) days to respond to this
letter if after that time nothing is done or I have not heard from
you I will consider taking the steps to declare the building unsafe
and order the tenants to be removed.If you have any questions
