DRAINAGE PIPING SPECIALTIES
PART 1 - GENERAL
1.01 RELATED DOCUMENTS
A. The other Contract Documents complement this Section.
B. Division 01 – General Requirements and Section 220000 govern all Work of
Division 22.
C. Other specification sections (Divisions 02-14, 21, and 23-26) may contain
requirements related to Division 22.
1.02 SUMMARY
A. This Section includes the following drainage piping specialties:
1. Cleanouts.
2. Floor drains.
3. Trench drains.
4. Hub drains.
5. Air gap fittings.
1.03 SUBMITTALS
A. Refer to procedures for submittals in Section 013323, “Shop Drawings, Product Data,
and Samples.”
B. Action Submittals:
1. Submit product data including materials of construction and furnished options
and accessories for the following. Clearly indicate, by highlighting or itemized
lists, all differences to “Design Basis” product features.
a. Floor Cleanouts.
b. Floor Drains.
c. Trench Drains.
d. Stainless Steel Hub Drains.

2. Submit detailed layout assembly shop drawings including sizes, lengths,
furnished components and their locations, connection points and sizes, and
invert elevations for trench drains.
1.04 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. Drainage piping specialties shall bear label, stamp, or other markings of specified
testing agency.
B. Comply with NSF 14, “Plastics Piping Components and Related Materials,” for plastic
piping specialty components.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.01 CLEANOUTS
A. Exposed Drainage and Vent Stack Cleanouts:
1. Provide cleanout tee fitting in stack with cleanout plug. Fitting material shall
match adjoining pipe material type.
B. Cast-Iron Floor Cleanouts:
1. General: Factory fabricated assemblies complying with ASME A112.36.2M with
characteristics, dimensions, options, and accessories as indicated on drawings.
2. Manufacturer: Design basis manufacturer(s) and specific product(s) are
indicated on the drawings.
3. Where it is proposed that a product of one of the following manufacturers is to
be used in lieu of the “design basis” specified on the drawings, follow the
procedures for Other Products in Division 01 Section 016100, “Products,
Materials, and Equipment,” and provide full product data for each product and
direct comparative evidence of full equivalency to the “design basis.”

C. Stainless Steel Floor Cleanouts:
1. General: Factory fabricated assemblies complying with ASME A112.3.1 with

ASME A112.36.2M with characteristics, dimensions, options, and accessories as
indicated on drawings.

indicated on the drawings.
3. Where it is proposed that a product of one of the following manufacturers is to
be used in lieu of the “design basis” specified on the drawings, follow the
procedures for Other Products in Division 01 Section 016100, “Products,

2.03 TRENCH DRAINS
A. General: Factory fabricated assemblies complying with ASME A112.6.3 with
characteristics, dimensions, options, and accessories as indicated on drawings.
B. Manufacturer: Design basis manufacturer(s) and specific product(s) are indicated on
the drawings.
2.04 HUB DRAINS
A. Stainless Steel Hub Drains and Open Receptors: Factory fabricated assemblies
complying with ASME A112.3.1 with characteristics, dimensions, options, and
accessories as indicated on drawings.
1. Manufacturer: Design basis manufacturer(s) and specific product(s) are
indicated on the drawings.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.01 INSTALLATION
A. Refer to Division 22 Section “Plumbing Basic Piping Materials and Methods” for basic
piping installation requirements.
B. Install drainage specialties where indicated on drawings. Install per manufacturer’s
written instructions, as indicated on drawings, and as follows:
C. Install individual traps for drainage piping specialties requiring traps, unless
otherwise indicated. Omit traps on indirect wastes unless trap is indicated on
drawings.
D. Install cleanouts as follows:
1. Cleanouts shall be same as drainage piping up to NPS 4. Use NPS 4 for larger
drainage piping unless larger cleanout is indicated.
2. Install a floor cleanout at each change in direction of piping greater than
45 degrees.
3. Install floor cleanouts in horizontal drainage piping not more than 100 feet
apart.
4. Locate a cleanout at base of each vertical drainage and vent stack.

5. Install floor cleanout deck plates flush with finished floor.
6. For cleanouts located in concealed piping, install cleanout wall access covers, of
types indicated, with frame and cover flush with finished wall.
E. Install floor drains as follows:
1. Install floor drain flashing collar or flange so no leakage occurs between drain
and adjoining flooring. Maintain integrity of waterproof membranes where
penetrated.
F. Install hub drains and open receptacles with top of hub minimum 1 inch above floor,
unless indicated otherwise on the drawings.
3.02 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL
A. Inspection and testing requirements are specified in the respective Division 22
drainage piping specification sections.
3.03 CLEANING
A. Clean interior of drainage piping specialties. Remove dirt and debris as work
progresses.
B. Protect drainage pipe specialties during remainder of construction period to avoid
clogging with dirt or debris and to prevent damage from traffic or construction work.
