EXISTING use of structure/property;
For the past fifteen to twenty years the building and
property at 10 Michelman Avenue, Northampton, Massachusetts, has
been used for the maintenance of the entire fleet of ambulances
owned by the Northampton Ambulance and its predecessors. The
Northampton Ambulance Co. has also used the garages for the repair
and maintenance of its employee's motor vehicles. Maintenance of
the vehicles includes the washing of the rescue vehicles on a daily
basis. The company has also allowed their employees to wash their
vehicles while waiting for a rescue call. The Northampton Ambulance
Co. employs at least twenty employees at 10 Michelman Avenue, seven
days a week, twenty four hours a day.
One third of the building has been used by the Northampton
Ambulance Co. as a quarters for the employees. The employees shower
and prepare food on the premises, twenty four hours a day.
At the change of shift there are as many as eighteen vehicles
parked on the property at 10 Michelman Avenue.
PROPOSED use of structure/property;
The Northampton Ambulance Co. will vacate on December 1,
1993. At that time the owner, Charles R. Morin a/k/a Zuli, would
like to commence operation of a small auto repair shop eight hours
a day, five days a week. He will be the only mechanic and will
service a limited number of cars by appointment only. There will be
no employees. Zuli will continue to strive towards improving the
appearance of the property and will landscape and erect fences upon
approval of the Building Inspector.
