Consulting Engineers Date of Submittal: February 16, 2011 SECTION 1 – BUILDING DESCRIPTION PROJECT SCOPE: This project consists of the major renovations to the existing business-dwelling unit mixed use occupancy located at 120-122 King Street, in Northampton, Massachusetts. The use group of the building will change to business only. The Building is Use Group Type B (Business) and the Construction Type in the building is 5B, Unprotected as defined by the 2009 International Building Code. The existing building consists of approximately 4730 square feet total on two levels, plus the basement. The proposed building that will be wholly affected by this project, and consists of approximately 5340 square feet total on two levels, plus the basement. The total gross square footage of the is to remain under 7500 square feet. In compliance with the 2009 IBC section 903.2, an Automatic Sprinkler System is not required to be installed at the building. The business occupancy loads are less than 100 on the floor above the lowest level of discharge. The total occupant load of all floors is less than 500 persons. In compliance with the 2009 IBC section 907.2.2, a Manual or automatic fire alarm system is not required to be installed at the building. *** End of Basis of Design Narrative ***
