Chaffin TO: Louis Hasbrouck, Commissioner Code Enforcement, Building 212 Main Street Northampton, MA 01060 THE FOLLOWING WAS NOTED: 1. 1 observed the fire and water damage to the main auto parts storage and salvage building and in my opinion the building can be repaired and saved.The walls are 8" concrete block, 14'-0" high with 16" x 12" buttresses at 10'-0" on centers.The walls are in good condition. 2. 1 recommend the walls be firmly and rigidly braced interior and exterior during demolition and reconstruction of the factory engineered and fabricated roof trusses and roofing. Each roof truss(2'-0" oc.) shall be anchored to the wall plate (which appears to be in good condition)with two (Simpson) hurricane ties Model No. "H5" and two common 10d toe nailed, one each side. 3. Gable end trusses shall be sheathed with 5/8" CDX plyscord , nailed with 8d common galv. nails at 6" oc each interior truss web member and 4" oc each top chord and bottom chord and 4" oc to a new PT 2" x 8" wall plate anchored to the block wall with%2" x 12" anchor bolts solid grouted into the block cells at 48"oc. 4. Roof sheathing shall be 5/8" CDX plyscord nailed with 8d common galv. nails at 4" oc to each truss chord.Stagger sheathing panels . Install 2"x 6" solid blocking laterally along panel edges and nail with 8d common galv. nails at 6" oc each edge staggered. 5. Extreme care shall be taken, when demolishing and removing the existing roofing, roof sheathing and roof framing members, not to rack or move or disturb or cause any crack in the existing concrete block walls. 6. The contractor shall call the architect when the roof demolition is complete for an inspection of the walls.
