Description of Proposed Use/Work/Project/Occupation: Add driveway and remove concrete walk and garage foundation Existing Conditions: Our two-family house currently has no paved driveway, and no "curb cut" of its own on Nonotuck Street (see site plan and detail drawing, attached). Existing dirt parking area abuts driveway for#22 Nonotuck street (photo #1). A large tree cuts into the parking space next to the house, forcing cars to pull past it into the yard (photo#2). Current parking area is irregularly shaped, covering approximately 1100 square feet (see drawing). It is wide enough for only 3 cars, causing 4th car to partially block the entrance (photo#3). Our yard slopes downhill away from Nonotuck street. There is noticeable soil erosion due to wear and tear from cars and storm runoff, particularly in the winter. The parking area is becoming a "gully", and the roots of the tree have become exposed as cars drive over them to park (photos#3, #4 &#5). Additional considerations: • We are forced to park on the opposite side of the house from our kitchen entrance, which is ideally located for a driveway on its own side (photo#6). • The traffic on Nonotuck street is very dangerous (3 of our cats were run over in the past year, and our mailbox was shattered by a truck). We have a small child whom we don't dare let out in front of the house. We need to maximize backyard space for her to play in, and to erect a fence to keep her away from the street. • Cars parking at night shine their lights directly at the windows of#22 Nonotuck Street (photo#5). Proposed Solution: , A S-- • We propose to put in a 20' x 40' paved driveway (with an entrance and 8' setback) on the left side of the house (see drawing & pho o#6). • We propose to coat the gully on the right side with top soil, and fence in the yard. We will leave a 20' x 20' gravel parking space for our tenants, graded level with Nonotuck street. This would reduce the parking area on that side of the house by about 700 square feet, increasing yard space by the same amount. The fence would shield #22 Nonotuck Street from headlights. • We propose to completely remove the existing 16' x 16' concrete garage foundation (photo#7), and the existing concrete front walk (photo#8), and replace both with gardens. 11,1 .' {.4, .. - ,._ efeA44,,,,,,,, `..c.' 4, t 1k:: ' - rz Mir. , 4 _ .
