On November 5, 2013, I conducted a site visit and investigated the existing roof framing in the area of the proposed PV panel installation. The existing roof trusses are installed at 7'-6" on- center, spanning 24', with 2x4 purlins on top of the trusses at 20" on-center and appear to be No 1 Douglas-fir. The top chord of the trusses are at a 4/12 pitch. I have reviewed the mounting details for the proposed array. Based on the specified PV panel unit weight of 42 Ibs, with the attachment points of the array installed along the first to purlins at the eave, and attached to 2x4 blocking installed between the first two purlins at the ridge, with the blocking attached to the purlins with joist hangers, and attached along the 3`d purlin down from the ridge, and then attached to the remaining purlins at 40" on-center and staggered to minimize the load to any one purlin. Install Simpson #H1 Hurricane Ties on the first two purlins at the ridge to reinforce the attachment of the purlin to the truss for uplift.
