There are actually four distinct existing roof systems for this building. The northernmost solar system (sub-array#1) has been modified according to the design I provided entitled "SK-1 / Roof Section 1 /Solar Panels", dated 4/12/13. I inspected this work on April 23, 2013, and it has been done essentially in accordance with the construction documents. The southernmost solar system (sub-array#2) straddles two different roof systems which have the same exterior geometry. One is a 2x10 rafter system and the second consists of standard steel plate trusses. Both are capable of sustaining the solar panels. However, the southern portion of the truss system creates a horizontal valley with a neighboring 2x4 rafter system. In order not to impose greater loads on this neighboring roof I recommend that the solar panels end at least 60 inches from the shared bearing wall. It is my opinion, based upon my site visits, as well as my experience and training as a professional engineer, that the roof at 50 Center Street can support the proposed solar panels and meet the structural requirements of 780 CMR, the Massachusetts State Building Code, Eighth Edition. Please call me if you have any questions regarding this project. Sincerely, / .. % / 4, "va iN Q ii,'-,/ z ,ayL yGrT - o ROBERT T. r , Robert Leet, P.E.
