Dear Wayne, I have reviewed the plans for the 94' Manhan Rail Trail Bridge, prepared by the Massachusetts Highway Department, dated 8/18/07, and have reviewed the plan for the proposed mural to be attached to the bridge. On 5{24/12 lmet with you and Sam Ostroff, mural artist/installer, on site, to view the hridge, confirm the bridge construction and installation details, and discuss the mural placement and preliminary attachment details to the bridge structure. Based on a design wind speed of 100 mph, and assurning the side ofthe bridge is totaily enclosed, the potential wind ioad on the side ofthe bridge would be 21.4 psf. The plans for the bridge noted that the bridze has been designed for o wind load nfl.7}_Pa which io equal to35.5 psf, substantially above the design wind speed. The mural will be constructed of steel tube, similar to that used to construct the bridge, and 1/8" stainless steel plate. The bridge has been designed to support a 20,000 lb vehicle and the weight of mural will not irnpact the load capacity of the bridge. 1 will consult with Sam during the installation of the mural to confirm adequate attachment to the bridge structure. The design and construction of the Manhan Rail Trail Bridge is adequate to support the proposed mural and the mura will not reduce the load capacity ofthe bridge.
