TNT Consulting 16 Kosior Drive Hadley, MA 01035 December 6, 2008 City of Northampton 212 Main Street Northampton, MA 01060 Attn: Mr. Anthony Patillo Building Commissioner Re: Roof Structure 15 Bridge Street w . Dear Mr. Patillo: On December 6, 2008 we inspected the roof framing of the Woickoski building at 15 Bridge Street. As previously noted, in the June 20, 2008 letter, movement has occurred to both the north and south exterior walls. We have noticed that further movement has occurred in the north wall where upon cracks in the exterior north wall studs and deflection in the valley beam (near the pull down attic access) have occurred. Our previous recommendation was for the removal of the entire sloped roof; second and third floor wall systems, and the floor system for the third floor. Presently we are recommending temporary shoring for the roof structure for this coming winter. This will include the following: 1. Sistering of studs to any cracked studs on the north wall. 2. Install 2x6 T -brace at the peak for the valley beam near attic access, locating the bottom of these brace to bearing walls below. 3. Constructing a stud brace wall at the center third of the all valleys to deter further deflection 4. Construct two knee walls to shorten the span of the main roof rafters. 5. Install collar ties within the upper one -third height of the attic at every rafter location. 6. Install 45° bracing to the North wall top plate with bottom of the brace connected to the side of the ceiling joist. When the work is completed we will conduct an inspection for compliance and furnish you with an approval letter for this work. No destructive testing was performed at the time of inspection. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. Sincerely, Teresa Wong Neyha P.E. ( Structural Engineer
