31B-171 (2) City of Northampton 474 r Massachusetts Cc Vf _ DEPARTMENT OF BUILDING INSPECTIONS \ 212 Main Street • Municipal Building ‘P4.* Northampton, MA 01060 413 -587 -1240 Building Commissioner Charles P. Staelin Karen Goldeing - Staelin 32 Barrett Place Northampton, MA 01060 RE: Your Letter Dated Sept13, 2009 Charles & Karen, I have responded to you. Our office found your allegations were unfounded. I supplied to you the reports on construction permits taken out at that location. I have spoken to the inspectors who had inspected site and all reported they could not support your allegations. The last inspection was done, Jan 5, 2009 and the permit was retrieved with all in compliance. Northampton zoning allows up to 4 unrelated people to live together as a family unit, by all appearances this seems to be the case. If you have solid evidence that this is not correct please supply. Sincerely, Anthony Patillo Building Commissioner City of Northampton CC: Nancy & John Brady, 37 Henshaw Ave, Carolyn& Dave March, 29 Tyler Ct., Charles Ekdahl, 51 Henshaw Ave. Charles P. Staelin Karen Golding - Staelin 32 Barrett Place Northampton, MA 01060 August 4, 2009 Mr. Tony Patillo, Building Commissioner Office of the Building Commissioner City Hall 212 Main Street Northampton, MA 01060 Dear Mr. Patillo. Thank you for your response to our letter of July 20` The list of permits you included were indeed those that we saw when we looked at the records in your office. However we do not see two projects among the permits. The first is an additional exterior doorway to the basement that was cut into the brick wall facing Barrett Place. We were told that it was necessary for code reasons, but the permits list no basement renovations that would seem to require it. The second is renovations on the 3` floor that (according to the current occupant) include an "artist -in- residence apartment" with a kitchen that the occupant says that he and the owner installed himself. We have not seen the apartment and do not know what it involves, but we do wonder if that constitutes a second auxiliary apartment under the code. Is this something you could look into?
