The Zoning Board issued the special permit for the replacement sign package at Stop & Shop based upon the application materials
submitted.
The Board found the following criteria in section 7.2 M to be met:
Signs are located only where they are otherwise permitted In the district; and
(2) The Board of Appeals determined that the architecture of the building, is such that additional signs would not detract from the
character of the neighborhood and should be permitted in the public interest.
The store sits well back from the street is reducing the number and total square footage of sign from their previous special permit. The
signs Indicate products sold within.
(3) The Board of Appeals specified the number and size be that shown on the plans for a total of 352 square feet In 11 signs including the
main 193 + - sf Stop & Shop sign.

The Zoning Board of Appeals granted the Special Permit for more than one wall sign, to include 1 logo sign and 12 department signs, and
for more than 100 square feet of wall signage, for a total of 431.5 square feet based on the following information submitted with the
application and at the public hearing:
1. Super Stop and Shop Sign /Building Elevation, Prepared by Agnoli Sign Company, Inc. revision date 7/29/04.
2. Store #787 Northampton Renovation Elevation, Prepared by Landry Architects, revised date 7/23/04.
3. Letter to ZBA from Wagner Engineering Associates, Inc. dated August 26, 2004.
The Board granted the request for additional signage upon determining that:
A. The requested use protects adjoining premises against seriously detrimental uses. The change results in a reduction of total square
footage of sign area from the existing conditions.
B. The requested use will not change safety of vehicular and pedestrian movement within the site and on adjacent streets, nor affect
traffic on the streets and roads in the area.
C. The requested use will not affect the relationship of structures and open spaces to the natural landscape, existing buildings and other
community assets in the area. The signs will be internally illuminated and prevent off -site light spill;
D. The requested use will not overload, the City's resources including the effect on the City's water supply and distribution system,
sanitary and storm sewage collection and treatment systems, fire protection, streets and schools; and
E. The requested use meets the special regulations set forth in section 7.2 (13) of the Zoning Ordinance. Specifically,
1.Signs are located only where they are otherwise permitted in the district; and
2. The Board of Appeals determined that the architecture of the building, the location of the building or the land or nature of the use
being made of the building or land is such that additional signs or signs of a larger size would not detract from the character of the
neighborhood and should be permitted in the public interest.
3. The Board of Appeals has specified in the permit that a total of 431.5 square feet is permitted, which is a reduction of 124 square
