We hereby submit an Inspection of a commercial Fire escape located at 152 -154 Federal St.
See attached pictures for details on framing and placement of structure.

I have Been asked by Pete Pacosa, owner of a 4 family building, located at 152 -154 Federal St.
To inspect the fire escape structure and write up a report, for the Northampton Building Department.
I visited the property on 2/24/09. The structures consist of a spiral stairway made of steel.
The stair way starts at ground level and winds up to the second floor deck.
The base of the main post has flat stock steel bolted to a 14" concrete fluted pier.
The concrete pier has 12" above ground exposed. I do not know the depth of the pier.
The landing at the base of the stairs consist of stacked bricks with flat stone on top.
The top of the spiral stairway has a square landing 38 "x 38 ", steel frame and a 3 /4" P.T. plywood floor.
The landing is bolted to ledgers that are hanging off the existing 2" floor deck framing.
The ledgers are nailed not bolted.
Second floor deck consist of 2x8 pt joist 16" O.C. and (2) 2x8 pt beam work. Deck is hung off house
ledger and beam using 2x8 joist hangers. 4x4 pt post supports second floor deck, stairway and roof.
After inspecting the fire escape, I have come to the conclusion that the stairway is sound and stout.
It could use a paint job to keep the rust factor down. The landing ledgers could be bolted to add to the
strength. The stairway should last for quite some time as long as it is maintained.
