As suggested by your office, I have enclosed Zoning Permit Applications, and the associated
plan document, for the proposed signage improvements program at the Smith College
Campus. Also enclosed is the required filing fee of $15.00.
The intent of the proposed sign improvements and additions is to provide vehicular
directional information to first time visitors. The existing 16 year -old sign system is being
improved campus -wide, and the addition of vehicular signs to the program will fill a gap
that was missing from the original implementation.

Re: Smith College signage improvements
Dear Ms. Farrington,
I have reviewed the zoning permit applications describing signage improvements for Smith
College.
Seven of the proposed signs (numbers 8 through 14) would be allowed by right. If you submit
sign permits for those signs with detailed location information, they would be approved.
Numbers 8, 9, 10, 13 and 14 are located in urban residential "C" zone and will need to be set
back 10 feet from the front property lines.
Numbers 11 and 12 are in the central business district; the front setback requirement is -0 -, so
could be placed anywhere on Smith property.
Numbers 1 through 7 are located on public property and are subject to review by the Board of
Public Works. Please contact the Department of Public Works for more information on those signs.
