DCCSI will provide a specified engineered wood header once the available height has been
determined. DCCSI will field mull the units on the protected dining room floor, provide unit
installation, necessary exterior flashing and or caulking, perimeter air sealing and necessary unit
shimming and securing. DCCSI will install fiberglass batt insulation in affected bays and install
new 1 /2" thick regular drywall taped and finished smooth, paint ready. DCCSI has carried an
allowance for both electrical and painting phases since timing did not allow for subcontractor
site visits.
Allowance work will be billed on a cost plus 20% general contractor fees. DCCSI will install
baseboards and casings with profile to match existing and custom made window sills and
supports with the exact species, sizing and profiles to be determined. DCCSI will provide
window trim and siding at the exterior with details to match existing.
Please note: this proposal is as comprehensive as possible. Any work not outline is not

Dave Chicoine Construction Services, Inc. (DCCSI) proposes to provide a carpentry and general
contracting service to complete the following:
Rebuild approximately 15' of exterior wall to facilitate the installation of multiple mulled
Andersen windows. The adjacent return walls will also be rebuilt to receive one Andersen
window in each wall.
DCCSI will provide in -house project management, temporary services, demolition and waste
disposal, rough and finish carpentry and drywall. DCCSI will provide subcontracted painting to
finish both the interior and exterior wall surfaces and trim. DCCSI is working from plans
developed by the client and will supply the window units as specified with mulling kits per
Andersen windows. DCCSI will provide temporary floor protection using 1/8" or 1/4" masonite
sheets fitted tightly together and to related walls. The seams will be taped together and sealed
with duct tape to help prevent construction debris from damaging the finish floor. DCCSI will
evaluate the condition of the floor prior to installation of the floor protection and notify the
client of any obvious existing defects. DCCSI will erect temporary 6 mil polyethylene dust
curtains as needed and provide zipper door access to the work area. It is the client's
responsibility to prevent dust curtain damage and refrain from unnecessary access. DCCSI will
salvage the existing window units for potential reuse by the client. DCCSI is not responsible for
damage incurred during removal but will take necessary steps to remove the units damage free.
DCCSI will remove drywall as necessary to facilitate framing of the new rough openings. The
existing electrical circuit serving the receptacle below the existing windows will be modified as
needed to allow for new window framing. The existing hot water baseboard heat will remain
and will not be impacted by the new rough openings based on the plans as provided. It is
possible that the mulled units may need more height based on the mulling diagram developed
by Andersen windows. The exact mulling arrangement as well as the required rough opening
size will be field verified prior to construction.

HOME OWNER EXEMPTION ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
The State of Massachusetts allows the homeowner the right under 780CMR 108.3.4 to
act as his/her construction supervisor. The state defines "Homeowner" as, " Person(s)
who owns a parcel on which he/she resides or intends to be, a one or two family
dwelling, attached or detached structures accessory to such use and/or farm structures. A
person who constructs more than one home in a two -year period shall not be considered a
home owner."
The building department for the City of Northampton wants person(s) who seek to use
the home owner exemption, act as their own constriction supervisor, to be aware that
by doing so you become responsible for compliance with state building codes and
regulations. The inspection process requires that the building department be called to
inspect work at various stages, which include foundation /footings (before backfill),
sonotube holes (before pour), a rough building inspection (before work is
concealed), insulation inspection (if required) and a final building inspection. The
building department requires these . inspections before the work is concealed, failure to
secure these inspections can result in failure to obtain a certificate of occupancy
until the work can be inspected_
If the homeowner hires other trades to perform work (electrical, plumbing & gas) the
homeowner will be responsible to make sure that the trades hired secure their proper
iermits in conjunction to the building permit issued, and that they get their required
inspections. Failure of the individual trades to secure the permits and inspections as
required can DELAY the project until such time as the proper permits and inspections are
made
