Dear Mr. Saltmarsh, As requested I have reviewed the existing roof structure and design loading per project prints provided. An evaluation of the proposed additional panels determined the design snow load and panel weight would now be considered a concentrated load at each clip to the roof purlins. It will be necessary to add a 4 inch, 14 guage stud such as a 4CEE14 by Dale /Incor or equal per the attached sketch; in order to prevent web crippling at the panel clip points. The web stiffening studs shall follow the panel support channels and connect at each clip load. In considering the sloped panels, the pitch is approximately 7/12 therefore, little snow build up is anticipated on these panels; however, at the feet of each panel and under the body of each panel standing snow can accumulate. As a result when standing snow depths of 16 to 18" occur then a snow removal program should be undertaken to prevent excessive deflection and ponding. Upon completion of the strengthening method per attached the existing roof members should adequately support the new panel modules.
