Letter Re Fox Den10/22/2018 City of Northampton Mail - Park Hill Road Solar - Foxes Hi Carolyn, One of the concerns that arose at our meeting was that there are two families of foxes that live in the knoll in the middle of the field that will be the future site for the solar project. The trees in the knoll will need to be cut down in the upcoming weeks. I spoke with a Naturalist from the Massachusetts Audubon Wildlife Help Hotline this week about the situation (her name is Marge). She said, first off, we received some misinformation because two fox families would never have their dens so close together, so only one fox family can live there. She also said at this time of year the kits are nearly full grown and not reliant on their den anymore. Often times foxes have more than one den so if one gets destroyed, there's a good chance they have another nearby. She said we don't have to worry about them as we start construction and they should get out of the way on their own. Marge's number is 781-259-2150. She was very helpful and would be more than happy to speak you or anyone on the Town boards. Given the knowledge that the foxes will leave on their own, we are going to move forward clearing the knoll with no further action related to the foxes. I also sent this message to Sarah LaValley on the ConCom. Please do let us know if you have further questions or concerns on this matter.
