Detailed Project Information
Special Permit Description: The project will not have a detrimental impact on the adjoining properties.
It may provide a benefit by reducing the storm water temperature. The project will have no impact on
existing traffic. The structure will provide shade to vehicles parked in the lot and will offset fossil
consumption. The project will not impact city resources. The canopy will reduce the temperature of
storm water. This has a net benefit impact on the water cycle as elevated water spikes can have
detrimental impacts on the environment. The canopy will not reduce open space and it will decrease the
carbon footprint of the city.

The Planning Board approved the site plan for the construction of a solar canopy over a portion of the rear parking lot based upon the
plans submitted with the application.
In approving the site plan, Me Scard determined that the canopy met the standards in Section 11.1
A. The requested use protects adjoining premises against seriously detrimental uses through provision for surface water drainage, sound
and sight buffers andpresennnion of views, light, and air. This is a carport over existing parking not visible from king Street.
S. The requested use will promote the convenience and safety of vehicular and pedestrian movement within the sire and on adjacent
streets, and bike paths, minimize traffic impacts on the streets and roads in the area. No changes to the use are proposed.
C. The site will function harmoniously in relation to other structures and open spaces to the natural landscape, existing buildings and
other community assets in the area as it relaMs to landscaping, dremage, sight lines, building orientation, massing, egress, and
setbacks.
D. The requested use will not change nor create any new impacts.

The planning board site plan approval (Sept 14, 2017) needs to be recorded at the Hampshire Registry of Deeds before I
can issue the building permit (per zoning 350-4.10)
The city clerk holds the decision until the appeals period expires. It is available in the clerk's office if it has not been
picked up already.
Let us know when it has been recorded or bring a copy to the office and we'll issue the permit.
