Good morning - I'd like to submit a public comment about the proposed plan for 14 Garfield Street, Florence.
I'm very disappointed at the proposed plan for this site, and surprised at the audacity of trying to force fit as many people
as possible, multiple large buildings and a huge parking lot into this lot which previously held a single large house, without
any consideration of the huge impact this would have on the surrounding neighbors.
This is a quiet residential neighborhood, with mainly single homes, gardens, native plantings and trees, and open space.
The proposed plan is completely out of place, and would negatively alter the fabric of the neighborhood and the
experience of the people living here.
There are houses that currently look out at trees, which would now have a 12 car parking lot and trash dumpsters right
outside their back windows. What about the increased noise of so many people in one place coming and going? What
about visitors crowding street parking? Parking on these streets is already tight, with some driveways hard to access
depending on car placement. What about emergency vehicles that may not be able to get through? Additional truck traffic
with deliveries?
It's vital that developers should be trying to work with the environment, prioritizing native plants, trees and open space, not
plowing over every amount of green space for a profit. I can't see this being anything other than a huge detriment to this
neighborhood.
To paraphrase Dr. Ian Malcom, just because something can be done, doesn't mean it should be. I urge the Council to
please consider the huge negative impacts this development will have.
Thank you.
