NOTES
1.THE EXISTING CONDITIONS SHOWN ON THESE PLANS ARE BASED ON DATA FROM
MASSACHUSETTS AND NORTHAMPTON GIS DATABASE SUPPLEMENTED BY FIELD
OBSERVATIONS BY THE BERKSHIRE DESIGN GROUP AND ARE APPROXIMATE. THE
CONTRACTOR SHALL VERIFY ALL EXISTING CONDITIONS IN THE FIELD AND SHALL REPORT
ANY DISCREPANCIES TO THE ENGINEER PRIOR TO THE START OF WORK.
2.THIS PLAN IS PREPARED AS A SITE DESIGN AND IS NOT INTENDED TO BE USED FOR
DETERMINATION OF PROPERTY LINES. APPROXIMATE PROPERTY LINES ARE SHOWN FOR
COORDINATION PURPOSES. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL UTILIZE THE SERVICES OF A
PROFESSIONAL LAND SURVEYOR FOR THE DETERMINATION OF PROPERTY LINES.
3.THE LOCATIONS OF EXISTING UNDERGROUND UTILITIES ARE SHOWN IN AN APPROXIMATE
WAY ONLY BASED ON AVAILABLE DATA AND ALL UTILITIES MAY NOT BE SHOWN. PRIOR TO
CONSTRUCTION, CONTRACTOR SHALL CALL THE 'DIG SAFE CENTER' AT 811 AND HAVE ALL
UTILITIES MARKED ON THE GROUND. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR
DETERMINING THE EXACT LOCATION OF ALL EXISTING UTILITIES BEFORE COMMENCING
WORK. THE CONTRACTOR AGREES TO BE FULLY RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY AND ALL DAMAGES
WHICH MIGHT BE OCCASIONED BY THEIR FAILURE TO EXACTLY LOCATE AND PRESERVE ANY
AND ALL UTILITIES.
4.AN EXISTING HIGH PRESSURE NATURAL GAS TRANSMISSION PIPELINE AND ASSOCIATED
EASEMENT EXISTS WITHIN THE SITE. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL REVIEW THE ENTIRE SCOPE
OF WORK WITH TENNESSEE GAS PRIOR TO THE START OF ANY GROUND DISTURBING
ACTIVITIES, AND SHALL FOLLOW ALL DIRECTIONS OF THE UTILITY. VEHICLES AND
EQUIPMENT SHALL NOT CROSS THE EASEMENT.
5.STREAM AND WETLAND BUFFER AREAS SHALL NOT BE USED FOR PARKING, STORAGE,
STAGING OR LAYDOWN. ALL STOCKPILE AND STAGING AREAS SHALL BE PROTECTED BY
CONTINUOUS SILT FENCE.
6.THE CONTRACTOR SHALL TAKE ALL MEASURES NECESSARY TO MINIMIZE EROSION WITHIN
THE SITE AND TO PREVENT SEDIMENT FROM MIGRATING INTO THE EXISTING STREAM OR
OTHER WETLAND RESOURCE AREAS WITHIN AND NEAR THE SITE.
6.1.THE CONTRACTOR SHALL MAINTAIN A SUPPLY OF SILT FENCE AND STRAW WATTLE ON
SITE AT ALL TIMES WHILE THE WORK PROCEEDS IN ORDER TO RESPOND TO
EMERGENCY CONDITIONS. SILT FENCE AND/OR STRAW WATTLE SHALL BE PLACED AS
NECESSARY, OR AS DIRECTED BY THE ENGINEER, TO PREVENT SEDIMENT FROM
REACHING THE STREAM OR ANY OTHER WETLAND RESOURCE AREAS.
6.2.ANY DISTURBED SLOPES GREATER THAN 3H:1V SHALL BE PROTECTED WITH EROSION
CONTROL MAT HAVING BIODEGRADABLE NETTING. MAT SHALL BE LEFT IN PLACE
PERMANENTLY. PLASTIC NETTING WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
6.3.ALL AREAS DISTURBED BY EXCAVATION OR OTHER DISCRETE CONSTRUCTION
ACTIVITIES SHALL BE STABILIZED WITH LOAM AND SEED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AFTER
THE COMPLETION OF CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES IN THAT AREA. ALL SEED SHALL BE
RESTORATION MIX CONSISTING OF HERBACEOUS PLANTS AND GROUNDCOVER NATIVE
TO WESTERN MASSACHUSETTS. TURF GRASS SEED OR OTHER MONOCULTURE SEED
MIX WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
6.4.THE CONTRACTOR WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR RE-SEEDING AREAS OF SCARIFIED
TOPSOIL, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER SUCH DISTURBANCE WAS CAUSED BY DEDICATED
SCARIFICATION PROCESS OR BY THE PASSING OF VEHICLES AND EQUIPMENT
(INCLUDING TRACKED EQUIPMENT). HOWEVER, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL SEED OR
PROTECT AREAS WHERE, IN THE OPINION OF THE ENGINEER, SUCH DISTURBANCE IS
LIKELY TO CONTRIBUTE TO SEDIMENTATION OF A WETLAND RESOURCE AREA.
7.THE CONTRACTOR MAY IMPROVE ACCESS TO THE SITE AS NECESSARY TO COMPLETE THE
WORK THROUGH THE CONSTRUCTION OF GRAVEL ACCESS ROADS OR INSTALLATION OF
LAY-DOWN MATS. PORTIONS OF TEMPORARY ACCESS ROADS MAY OR MAY NOT BE
ACCEPTED AS PERMANENT IMPROVEMENTS AND LEFT IN PLACE AT THE SOLE DISCRETION
OF THE OWNER.
8.THE CONTRACTOR SHALL INSTITUTE A CLEANING/WASH-DOWN PROCEDURE FOR ANY
VEHICLES OR EQUIPMENT ENTERING THE SITE THAT HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH
OFF-SITE TOPSOIL OR VEGETATION TO PREVENT THE IMPORT OF INVASIVE SPECIES AT THE
SITE. NOTICE OF THIS PROCEDURE SHALL BE POSTED AT THE SITE ENTRANCE AND GIVEN TO
ALL PERSONNEL AND SUBCONTRACTORS AT THE SITE, AND THE OWNER OR ENGINEER MAY
DIRECT THE CONTRACTOR TO WASH EQUIPMENT AS THEY DEEM NECESSARY TO PREVENT
THE IMPORT OF INVASIVE SPECIES TO THE SITE.
