29-495 public comment by CC Marianne LaBarge June 7, 2023 Dear Zoning Board Members: I am unable to attend the Zoning Board of Appeals meeting this evening, June 8th, 2023, due to another commitment in Boston. I was contacted by Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Ryan, 415 Ryan Road on May 16th. They were very upset about construction happening at 405 Ryan Road prior to approval of the requested special permit to install an 8.5’ fence. I suggested that I do a site visit to review the situation. I also suggested that Mrs. Ryan contact Director Carolyn Misch, Office of Planning and Sustainability in our City, about the concerns of what she had seen. Upon my arrival to do a site visit on May 16th, while standing on Mr. and Mrs. Ryan’s deck, I did see men installing the fencing posts at 405 Ryan Road. Mr. and Mrs. Ryan were correct about the construction that was happening. As a City Councilor I know that Mr. and Mrs. Ryan have always had a good rapport with their neighbors for a long, long time. Mr. C. Philip Andrikidis, 405 Ryan Rd, is a very reputable businessman in our City. It’s a shame that a situation like this has occurred. It has created a tremendous amount of stress for Mr. and Mrs. Ryan. I hope that a good compromise can be achieved between Mr. Andrikidis and Mr. and Mrs. Ryan. We need to look at the character of the neighborhood. What are the reasons that an 8.5’ fence needs to be put on that side of the property at 405 Ryan Road? I’m hoping that the Zoning Board will help mitigate these unforeseen circumstances that have occurred. Please read this aloud during the Zoning Board meeting on June 8th. Sincerely, City Councilor Marianne LaBarge, Ward 6 (413) 584-7937 Mlabargeward6@aol.com
