The existing building is located at 4 Main Street. It is a one story brick structure which is being rEnovated and a second story is being added. The second floor is accessible to the grade at the rear of the buil ,ing. It is our understanding that as long as the toilet room installed on the second floor is for employee uEe and is never available to the public for their use, then the toilet room does not have to meet the barriEr-free conditions set up by the state. A letter statirg the exclusive use of the toilet facilities by the e ployees will be sent to the Northampton Building inspector by the owner of the building. A letter of confirmation is requested from the Architectural Access Board in regards to this itsue. This is being set forth as a requirement from tVe Building Department in Northampton. Your assis ance in this issue is greatly appreciated. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact me. .- Sincerely, Architects Incorporated Jeb6 Dennis NAM p ?0.tTc)y BOARD OF HEALTH avor y„a EMO RANDU 210 Main Street City Halo gY: , mw MEMORANDUM Northampton, MA 01060 TO: Acting Building Inspector Frank Sienkiewicz FROM: Peter J. McErlain, Health Agent 1 ( 6 0 U I D fi SUBJECT: Tom Masters ' Project JAN 161991 "s DEPT OF BUILDING INSPECTIONS NORTHAMPTON,MA 01060 DATE: September 7 , 1990 RE: MASTERS' PROJECT 4 Main Street On September 6 , 1990 , I contacted Mr . Louis Vesco of the State Board of Plumbing and Gas Fiing Inspectors in Boston. I asked Mr. Vesco about the fee and procedure for obtaining a Plumbing Code Variance for the Tom Masters ' Project at 4 Main Street. The variance would allow construction/occupancy of a building with only one toilet. Mr. Vesco asked what the square footage of the project was . I informed him that the addition totaled 460 square feet . Mr. Vesco informed me that, because the addition was less than 1, 000 square feet in size, one toilet was adequate, as long as the addition was not to be part of a medical facility. He said, therefore, no variance was required. Mr. Vesco added that if there were any questions concerning this matter they should be directed to him. Thank you for your assistance. Peter J . McErlain BOARD OF HEALTH City Hall 210 Main Street Northampton, MA 01060 Dear Mr. McErlain: As per our discussion of yesterday - I am requesting that my architect, Ed Gendry, and myself, be allowed to attend your August 28th Board Meeting to discuss my Wally's building project at 4 Main Street. The building inspector is insisting on two bathrooms on the 460 square foot second floor addition - which would only be occupied by one or two people. We would like to present our case - that one bath would suffice given the space constrictions and the fact that it would not be for public use. I understand from the building inspector that a positive recommendation from the Board of Health would go a long way toward obtaining this variance. Thank you for your attention to this matter and I'll look forward to hearing from you. I can be reached at my office at 584-5700. Sincerely, 171_ Tom Masters THE TOM MASTERS COMPANY TM/emg
