Description of the Proposed Project [24 CFR 50.12 & 58.32; 40 CFR 1508.25]:
The Forbes Library has seven single stall bathrooms in our building that are used frequently by a broad cross section of our community. Six of them are open to the public and one of
them is for staff use only. We seek to have these seven bathrooms meet current ADA standards by removing physical barriers and making it easier to open the bathroom doors. Six out of
the seven bathrooms have raised threshold lips that make it very difficult for people in wheelchairs to maneuver over without assistance. Also, the doors are very heavy, open inward,
and the positioning of the handle makes opening them very hard for people with mobility, coordination, or strength issues to operate. We would remove the raised threshold lips from
the six public bathroom and add automatic door opener push buttons on both sides of the doors for all seven bathrooms.
