Description of the Proposed Project [24 CFR 50.12 & 58.32; 40 CFR 1508.25]:
The Northampton Survival Center's emergency food pantry meets the HUD national objective of providing a public service that directly benefits people with low and moderate incomes by
offering a stable and reliable source of free, healthy food all year long. The coronavirus poses an even greater threat to vulnerable households who are at risk of hunger. As economic
hardships continue and worsen, the need for our services continues to increase due to lost wages, unemployment, and medical and childcare costs. The Center distributes an average of
71,000 pounds of food each month, 64% of which goes to Northampton residents. We now have four distinct distribution options at play in Northampton, allowing people to access food
support in whatever ways work best for them every week. Each of these prioritizes client choice in selecting groceries, toiletries, and other offerings: * Drive-through pick-up from
our Northampton site * Curbside pick-up with easy online ordering in advance * Individual home deliveries throughout the city * Deliveries to low-income, senior-, and disabled-housing
sites
