The information that you provided is attached to this letter for reference. You are proposing to mount PV panels on one side of the house roof. The proposed house measures 26'x36'. You have provided architectural plans by Austin Design Inc. These plans are dated October of 2020. You have also provided roof truss design and plan output from Universal Forest Products, dated June of 2020. The house is a one-story ranch with gable roof.The roof pitch is 6/12 The roof will be supported by manufactured wood roof trusses at 24 O.C. These trusses span 26' on the horizontal. The trusses have 2x6 top chords, and 2x4 bottom chords. All truss members are#2 SPF.The truss web members are 2x4, except the short, 2x6 verticals at the supporting walls which make up the "high heal". The trusses were designed for a top chord live load of 35psf.This top chord live load is the flat roof snow load (Pf). The truss design loads also include dead loads 20psf on the top chord and 10psf on the bottom chord. The roof will have a structural wood panel (Plywood or OSB) deck, and asphalt shingles. In providing this review and report, I assume that the house will be built as design, I further assume that the trusses will be properly installed, including required lateral bracing on truss T02, members 3-12 and 5-8, as shown on the truss plans, and diagonal bracing along members 4-11 and 4-12 at the gable ends. NECE's review included the controlling gravity load combination (snow and dead load). I base this on the following: the PV panels will be installed parallel to the roof, eliminating any additional wind load. The smooth surface of the proposed PV panels will shed snow more readily than the asphalt roofing. The ground snow load (Pg) for Northampton is 40 psf. The minimum flat roof load (Pf) is 35psf. According to the information that you provided; the proposed PV panels weigh approximately 2.3psf. In summary, the house roof will support your proposed PV array.
