City Council ORDER Roundhouse parklet WF9-7-17City of Northampton Massachusetts _________ In City Council, September 7, 2017 Upon the recommendation of Mayor David J. NarkewiczWHEREAS,The Open Space, Recreation & Multi-Use Trail Plan (2011-2018) recommends a Pavement-to-Parks program, preserving small previously urbanized or paved areas as tiny parks or parklets; andWHEREAS,Since the adoption of this Pavement-to-Parks policy, the City, working with community members, has completed three pavement-to-parks projects, Amber Lane, Pleasant Street/Hockanum Road, and the mobile downtownparklet; andWHEREAS,Theowner of the Roundhouse has offered to develop a new parklet on the rear of the Roundhouse on City property; andWHEREAS,The City has received a request for the development of a 200± square feet public parklet, with a handicap ramp which would serve the parklet and an abutting business, in an unused area off Amber Lane that is not needed by Central Services or DPW; and NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, City Council authorizes that the Mayor toaccept the donationof the Roundhouse parklet, in accordance with Massachusetts General Law Chapter 44, Section 53A1/2, in a manner that Ensure unfettered public access to the parklet,Reserve the right of the city to approve the final design, andInclude such other terms and conditions as the Mayor finds reasonable.
