Joint Conservation and Agriculture Commission project
The APR program allows the city to purchase Agriculture Preservation Restrictions
The Conservation Commission, with Agriculture Commission approval, has made an offer for an APR
valued at the full balance of the CPA grant.
In 2014, the project funded:
The purchase of the Russell APR, permanently preserving 8.6 acres of prime farmland.
o CPA investment $3,400
o Leveraged an additional $13,600 in Massachusetts Dept. of Ag. Resources for the APR
Current Status
The city is moving forward on the purchase of a parcel of farmland in January 2015. We are looking
at various options for this parcel, but one option is the sell the farmland and retain an APR. If we do
that, CPA APR funds will cover the value of this APR.
The City has made an offer on two other APR parcels. We fully expect all of the APR funds to be
expended to acquire APRs.
