RE: Historical Commission demolition review, 716 Bridge Road
Dear Mr. Strycharzl:
In accordance with Chapter 161 of the Northampton Ordinance, “Demolition,” the Northampton Historical Commission evaluated the house at 716 Bridge Road for which a zoning permit demolition
application was filed with the building department. Enclosed please find notification of the Commission’s determination of Significance.
The Commission will now hold a public hearing to determine whether the house is “Preferably Preserved,” and whether a demolition delay should be implemented. This hearing is scheduled
for January 13, 2020, at 5:30 PM in the Office of Planning and Sustainability, 210 Main Street. A determination as to whether the structure should be Preferably Preserved must be
made within fourteen days of the hearing, and is generally made during the hearing. The outbuildings on the property have construction dates of 1901, and will not be subject to the
hearing unless information indicating earlier construction is found.
A ‘Public Notice’ sign must be posted on the property. These signs are available in the Office of Planning and Sustainability, and can be picked up at any time during business hours.
Please place the attached agenda in the pocket on the sign.
Section 161-5 D of the Ordinance lists some evidence that the Commission might consider when making its determination of Preferably Preserved status. These include, but aren’t limited
to, the buildings’ condition, age, role in the streetscape, and construction elements. It would be helpful if you could provide any information you think would be useful for the Commission
to review. Please note that the initial determination of significance only takes into account the history of the building, all additional information is considered at the hearing.
Please also provide any information y0u have regarding plans for architectural salvage of any elements of the house.
