flood insurance policiesThat is great, and much larger than I thought. If you could get the exact discount amounts next week, unless Jimmy has it, that would be perfect. I am taking our final flood hazard mitigation plan to City Council in two weeks and would love to have the figures in time for that presentation. If I were in the office, I could give you more current figures and an exact amount of the discount, as well as a what-if figure for a 15% discount. It is not exactly the 10% times the total premium as I believe that Zone X policies receive only a 5% discount. I will be out of the office until next week because of the Democratic convention. Jimmy, do you have access to the exact figures? Subject: Flood insurance and CRS Thank you. That is extremely helpful. Is there anyway to get the figures for: 1. The total number of flood insurance policy holders in Northampton (as I remember its about 30); and 2. The total premiums paid. I would love to be able to show the total public benefit of acheiving the 10% discount (we believe its about $3,000/year) and the benefit if we could achieve a 15% discount, which is our ultimate goal. Thanks. Wayne Feiden --- "Zingarelli, Richard (DCR)" <Richard.Zingarelli@state.ma.us> wrote: Wayne, Here's what I found on 180 Fair Street Extension in the database. The renewal date on that policy is April 5. The renewal effective April 5, 2003 was processed on April 1 and shows no CRS discount. The renewal effective April 5, 2004 (the current policy) was processed on April 6 and is showing a 10% discount. The total premium was $1199 last year and $1152 this year after the discount. [The rates went up around 5%, it appears, from last year to this year.] I don't know how the discount is shown on the actual policy, so I don't know if it should be obvious in looking at the policy or not. The fact that the NET premium only went down $47 may be why she thought the discount was not applied. This is the only information I have available to me directly. If you or she have other questions I can probably get the answers from the FEMA regional office in Boston. Other people in the audience agreed, but no one else gave me addresses or details. I look forward to hearing what you find out. Thank you so much for your help. Subject: RE: Flood insurance and CRS Wayne, Our office has access to a FEMA database that includes information on policies. It is incredibly cumbersome to search but I did look at a couple of policies that were renewed after April 2003, and they each showed the 10 percent reduction in premium. Based on this, I would assume that the discount is generally being applied. If you can send me particulars (address is best) on the people who said they have not received the discount I can try looking up their policies to see if they are correct. If they have indeed received the discount, we can look into why are not aware of this (maybe something in how the premium is stated on the policy). Please send me whatever info you have and I will look into it. Subject: RE: Flood insurance and CRS Thanks. We received our CRS rating last year and at the time were informed that anyone renewing their floodplain insurance after April 2003 would receive a 10% discount. At the final public meeting last night on our flood mitigation plan, we cheerfully announced that this 10% discount is in effect. Several floodplain residents said that their insurance policies renewed after April 2003 and they didn't receive the discount. I want to find out: 1. Is the discount is being applied in Northampton; 2. If so, why don't policy holders know this; 3. If not why not; 4. If not, can policy holders get a credit for being overcharged. Thanks. Subject: Flood insurance and CRS Wayne, I received an e-mail from Jimmy Chin of ISO saying that you were requesting information regarding flood insurance. Apparently you had sent the message to Jimmy with a cc to Miriam Anderson. Jimmy asked that I get in touch with you. Unfortunately, Miriam left our office several months ago to move to Wisconsin. Please feel free to ask me for any information that you need, and I will do my best to get it to you. I have a new staff person going to CRS training in 2 weeks, at which point we will once again be fully staffed with regard to CRS.
