ON PLAN 2386.1: Windows on the front will be 2 Casement with 2 crank out windows mounted on
the building where the single hung pair are in the plan. Rough opening for these windows is 66" x
41 '/4"
On the left side there will be a door so large items after being built in the Wood Work shop can be
lowered to the ground.
On the rear windows will be as they are on the plan except the small center will be removed ( may
add a center window same as the end ones).
On the right end window eliminated as this wall butts to the Garage in Plan # 728-1 HD

NOME OWNER EXEMPTION ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
The State of Massachusetts allows the homeowner the right under 780CMR 108.3.4 to act as his/her
construction supervisor. The state defines"Homeowner"as, " Person(s) who owns a parcel on which
he/she resides or intends to be, a one or two family dwelling, attached or detached structures
accessory to such use and/or farm structures. A person who constructs more than one home in a two-
year period shall not be considered a home owner."
The building department for the City of Northampton wants any person(s)who seek to use the home
owner exemption,to act as their own construction supervisor, to be aware that by doing so you
become responsible for compliance with state building codes and regulations. The inspection
process requires that the building department be called to inspect work at various stages, which include
foundationtfootings(before backfill),sonotube holes fore pour).a rough building Ins ion
(before work is concealed) Insulation Inspection (jLqulreand a final building Inspection
The building department requires these inspections before the work is concealed, failure to secure
these Inspections can result in failure to obtain a certificate of occupancy until the work can be
Inspected.
If the homeowner hires other trades to perform work(electrical, plumbing&gas)the homeowner will be
responsible to make sure that the trades hired secure their proper permits in conjunction to the building
permit issued, and that they get their required Inspections. Failure of the individual trades to secure
the permnspections as required can DELAY the project until such time as the proper permits

John,
Before we issue a building permit for your garage,we need to have a set of plans that shows exactly what you're going to
build.We'll then review the plans and either approve them or let you know what needs to change.
You sent plans for two different buildings,and a list of notes about changes you're making. One change you proposed
was 12' side walls for the one story section of the building.That changes the brace wall requirements.There's a lot more
involved than just changing from 2x4 to 2x6 studs.The plans clearly indicate that they're drawn for a building with 10'
maximum wall height.That's the kind of thing that needs to be adjusted in the plans.The plans don't show the foundation
dimensions.
Maybe the biggest problem is the way the 2 buildings ft together.The plans aren't clear, but it seems like the roof lines of
the 2 buildings won't connect.The ridges look like they're perpendicular and it couldn't be built the way ft's drawn.
The plans don't need to be drawn by an architect, but they need to show how the building will be put together,and how it
meets code. I think you may need to start fresh and maybe use the plans you have as a place to start.We're not doing
any more review until we get new plans.
