Vreeland Design Associates Re: Grow Food Northampton: Structural review for proposed 16’x 22’ Pavilion and 12’x 16’ Garden Shed. Dear Hank, I have completed a structural review of the proposed 16’x 22’ Open-air Pavilion and 12’x 16’ Garden Shed. The timber frames will be constructed of eastern white pine with 8x8 eastern white cedar posts for the Pavilion secured to the piers or slab with Simpson 8x8 post bases. White oak sills will be bolted down to a slab for the Garden Shed with the 7x7 posts attached to the sill with a stub tenon and tied down with Simpson Hurricane Straps. 1” hardwood pegs will be use to secure the mortise and tenon joinery in both structures. 8” TimberLok structural screws or similar will be used to secure the rafters to top plates and the Pavilion ridge beam. I have done the necessary engineering and certify that the proposed timber framed Pavilion and Garden Shed as shown in the plans provided by you, meet the structural requirements of the current MA State Building Code, including the anchorage and water-resistant construction requirements for a Flood-hazard Zone. Please contact me if you have any questions or need additional information. Sincerely, David Vreeland, PE Vreeland Design Associates
