ARCHITECTURAL DESCRIPTION:
Describe architectural features. Evaluate the characteristics of this building in terms of other buildings within the community.
This is a two story Greek Revival style home with a pedimented front gable roof; however, almost all of the home’s original
Greek Revival stylistic features have been removed. Since the home was first inventoried in 1980, the corner pilasters and frieze
have been covered in vinyl, which were the home’s most distinguishing features. The paired six over one windows in the gable
field have also been replaced by a very small circular vent. Around the turn of the 19th century, a two story hipped roof wing was
added to the southern elevation of the home. The front façade, including the side wing, is covered by a Colonial Revival era full
width front porch with Tuscan columns, square balusters, solid frieze, and apron. Windows on the home are replacement one
over one sash. On the northern elevation, there is a one story bay. There is a chimney on ridge of the front gable.
HISTORICAL NARRATIVE
Discuss the history of the building. Explain its associations with local (or state) history. Include uses of the building, and the role(s) the
owners/occupants played within the community.
From Form B of 1980: “The first known owner of this house was Cylon Moody, a farmer. He is shown owning this house and the
one next north in the 1854 map. With its Greek Revival styling, the house was probably built only ten or twenty years previous to
this date.”
