ARCHITECTURAL DESCRIPTION:
Describe architectural features. Evaluate the characteristics of this building in terms of other buildings within the community.
This is a two story modest Italianate style home that has been modified. It is a side gabled house with wide eaves and no
returns. There is a two story rear ell. At one point, a one story ell connected the house to the two-story barn, but this barn was
demolished in 2005. The three bay façade has a central entrance with an Italianate style porch. This porch is a replacement. The
narrative and photo of Form B from 1980 showed that the porch had a shed roof, chamfered posts and ornate balustrade. The
present porch has a hipped roof, Italianate style square columns, and square balusters. The front door presently has a narrow
trabeated wooden surround, which Form B from 1980 makes no mention of. All the six over six sash windows are replacements,
but have original, very faint drip edge lintels. There is a small rondel in each gable. The rear ell appears to have been majorly
altered or rebuilt since this house was first inventoried in 1980. On the southeast elevation of house is a one story hipped roof
porch with Italianate style columns.
HISTORICAL NARRATIVE
Discuss the history of the building. Explain its associations with local (or state) history. Include uses of the building, and the role(s) the
owners/occupants played within the community.
From Form B of 1980: “In 1858 Patrick Cavanaugh bought a small parcel of land in the “lane between two school houses on
South Street to the mill yard” from A. Perry Peck, the owner of the “mill yard.” The house was soon erected and is shown on the
1860 map. Mr. Cavanaugh worked as a laborer and teamster at the gristmill, and maintained this property into the early 20th
century.”
In 2003 the house was renovated attached shed (stable) was demolished. The barn was demolished in 2005. 2007 constructed
a detached garage
House last sold in 20063. Currrent owner is MARK D ALBRIGHT
