Decayed tree evaluation, 10-11-17October 11, 2017 To: Max Hebert Re: Evaluation of a 26” dbh white pine tree Dear Max: Below please find our evaluation of a 26” diameter white pine tree located to the right of the boiler plant at the Clarke School in Northampton, MA. The tree has a visibly decayed trunk beginning 2’ up from the root collar and extending over 10’ up the trunk. The wound is consistent with damage caused by a previous lightning strike. The decay is caused by death of the vascular tissue. The tree is approximately 90’ tall and with the decay in the trunk it is likely to fall in moderate winds. Due to the location of the tree it poses a hazard to pedestrians and vehicles. Call me if you have any questions about this evaluation. Sincerely, David J. Cotton, President Cotton Tree Service, Inc.
