Summary of Planned Activities
24 Sprint Street,Northampton,Massachusetts
It is anticipated that the facility at 24 Spring Street in Northampton,
Massachusetts,will be used as a warehouse and distribution center. It is also intended
that the facility will conduct light manufacturing operations and product assembly as
described below.
The light manufacturing activities will involve injection molding and the filling
of artistic pens with ink,and assembly of pens. Approximately eight injection molding
machines will be used to melt plastic pellets and mold the plastic into the required shapes
to create pen bodies and caps. A machine will then fill the pens with ink. The ink will be
pumped from a small container(typically a 5-gallon closed container). The ink will be
pre-nixed off-site;no ink mixing activities are anticipated to be conducted at the Spring
Street facility. The pre-mixed ink will be received in small containers at the Spring Street
facility. The final product,consisting of pens filled with ink, will be stored at and
distributed from the warehouse portion of the Spring Street facility.
h is not anticipated that the operations at the facility will routinely generate
hazardous wastes. However,if any hazardous waste is generated, it is likely to be only a
very small quantity of hazardous waste and waste oil,bringing the facility within the
definition of a very small quantity generator(VSQG)under 310 CMR 30.353.
