Dear Mr. Langdon:
This letter is to certify that on October 4, 1973, a
percolation test and deep hole observations were made on
land owned by Douglas Finn off Sylvester Road, Northampton,
for the purpose of installing an on-lot subsurface waste-
water disposal system. The approximate location of the
test site is shown on the U.S.G.S. quad sheet attached.
The Soil Conservation Service (SCS) has classified the
soils in the area as part of the Charlton-Hollis-Gloucester
Association and more particularly as "Rock Land" . A "se-
vere limitation" for on-lot sewerage systems is noted for
this area due to the shallow depth to bedrock. The depth
to the water table in the area is described by the SCS as
"deep" .
Our investigation of the subsoil, in general, verified the
SCS data; however, we were able to find an area with a
sufficient depth to bedrock to allow the installation of an
on-lot sewerage system, as shown in the attached soil log.
The stabilized percolation rate in a hole adjacent to the
test pit was 8 minutes per inch.
Based on the findings and in accordance with your suggestions,
we recommend that a subsurface disposal system be installed
with the following design criteria:
Septic Tank:
4 bedrooms x 2 persons/bedroom x 50 gal./person-day = 400 gal./day
Garbage Grinder to be installed.
Minimum size septic tank - 1000 gal.
Recommended - 1250-gal. septic tank.
Mr. Langdon 12 November 1973
Leaching Bed
Minimum Area - 1 sg. ft./gal.-day of sewage
400 x 1 - 400 sq. ft.
Recommended - 1000 sq. ft. leaching bed.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call.
Sincerely yours ,
("at. 77(214447-7./241
