A review of the Board of Health files and those at the Board of Public Works failed to reveal any record of either an approved septic system on your property or an approved connection to the city's sewer from your dwelling. Raw/untreated sewage flowing into any river or stream constitutes a violation of the State Sanitary Code 310 CMR 15.303(1)(a) 2. Therefore, under authority of Ch 30A, Sec. 6 and Ch. 233, Sec. 75 you are hereby ordered to connect your dwelling to the city sewer system within sixty(60) days of the receipt of this notice. Assistant DPW Director Gilford Mooring has been made aware of this problem. Please contact Mr. Mooring to determine the potential of connecting to the city sewer system in Mulberry Street. If you have any questions concerning this matter please don't hesitate to contact me at the Board of Health office. Thank you for your anticipated cooperation. Very truly yours, Peter J. Mail# Z 537 532 199 December 6, 1999 Peter MCFrl ain Board of Health 210 Main Street Northampton,MA 01060 Dear Peter: I am writing to update you as to the status of the sewer connection for 18 Mulberry St,I eMs (Assessors Map IOB, Lot 58). As of this date I have not been able to secure an excavator to do the outside work This is due to two principal holdups: 1.The inability to pinpoint the location of the sewer stub, and 2.The rapidly approaching winter weather. 1 have enclosed a letter from my preferred excavator,Tom Fenton. As you can see he is not starting any new projects until Spring of 2000. I think at this point holding off until spring is the best idea. I am still awaiting estimates on the inside plumbing portion which will involve an electrician and possibly a carpenter(depending on the location of the vent pipe). Holding off until' Spring will also allow me to secure the financing for this project. If you need any additional information I can be reached at 584-3314. Sincerely, Susan D. Peter-Please be advised that I have been in contact with both the homeowner and Ken Scott(head of sewer dept)in regards to connecting 18 Mulberry St. to city sewer. Lack of accurate records have made pinpointing the location of the sewer stub difficult. My schedule is booked for the rest of the year but we plan to complete this hook-up in the spring.
