I have a question about the noise that comes from your building. It appears that the structure on the southern corner is a large HVAC unit. Frequently a loud whine, perhaps from fans, emanates from that structure. The noise carries into our neighborhood. Occasionally the whine is at a frequency that is piercing. Is there any way to lessen or lower that sound? I understand that lowering the decibel level of sound coming from the unit may not be possible, but I would appreciate if you could examine the possibilities. Thank you for your consideration. I took sound level readings at the property lines along Nonotuck Street, Maple Street, Bliss Street and along the Mill river. I used a General Radio Type II sound level meter set on the A weighted scale, slow response. These readings were taken with all exterior mechanical equipment running. The highest readings observed were 65 dB on Maple Street near the end of the building and 66 dB along the Mill river at the rear of the building. The city's zoning ordinance allows up to 70 dB at the property line for general industrial uses. The plant is in an industrial zone. Since the observed levels are less than 70 dB, I will not take any action at this time. Let me know if the situation changes. It is not only the decibel level but the frequency level that is annoying. Please do contact Mr. Chisholm. Thank you for your consideration and attention to this.
