The Northampton Board of Health has inspected the premises at
144 South Street, Northampton, MA (assessor's map 38B parcel 90 .),
for compliance with Chapter II of the State Sanitary Code.
This letter will certify that the inspections revealed violations listed below,
which are serious enough as to endanger or materially impair the
health, safety, and well-being of the occupants & or abutters.
Under authority of Chapter III, Section 127 of the Massachusetts General
Laws, and Chapter II of the State Sanitary Code, you are hereby ordered to
make a good faith effort to correct the following violations
within SEVEN DAYS of the receipt of this order.

with metal overhead awning
deteriorated and hanging down.
(5) Kitchen wall with a large hole just
above the countertop and to the right
of the sink.
(6) Kitchen wall paper badly stained
and peeling in some areas....in need of
replacement. Dining room wallpaper
also with peeling areas.
(1) All prime exterior windows
throughout the entire dwelling are
badly deteriorated; windows are ill-
fitted, not weathertight, will not
-properly lock, are not easily operable;
and have peeling and/or flaking
surfaces (as well as window frames).
(2) 2"floor apartment back entrance:
Lower entrance must be equipped
with an exterior door which is
weathertight and capable of being
reasonably secured.
Properly post name, address, and
phone number of owner or manager in
a manner which is in compliance with
regulation 410.481. Copy included
(1) Repair basement step in an
approved manner and properly
illuminate the entire stairwell.
(2) All painted exterior surfaces need
to be refinished in an approved
manner which will also eliminate any
lead paint hazard which may have
been noted under regulation 410.502
below.
(3) Replace cracked floor board in an
approved manner.
(4) Remove, or otherwise, repair
metal overhang awning in an
approved manner.
(5) Repair large hole in the kitchen
wall in an approved manner.
(6) Replace kitchen wallpaper in an
approved manner. Repair/replace
dining room wallpaper in an approved
manner.
(1) Repair or replace all exterior
prime windows in an approved
manner. Since it is already known that
said windows have lead paint, it is
strongly recommended that all prime
windows and prime/storm window
combinations be replaced with newer
approved exterior window units, thus
eliminating numerous violations in one
step.
(2) Install an approved, weathertight,
lockable door for this entrance.

moisture buildup on walls and ceiling
which has, in turn, caused damage,
staining and mildewed surfaces.
Lead paint violations throughout the
dwelling, as already indicated in
report from licensed lead inspector.
All openable windows require
approved screening being April 1'
and October 30'", both inclusive.
Provide adequate ventilation for this
bathroom. (Exhaust fan
recommended). Replace badly
deteriorated window, and repair
damaged, stained, and mildewed
surfaces.
Take whatever action is necessary to
have the dwelling "certified lead
hazard free." by a licensed lead
inspector.
Inspection of premises was made on May 28, 1996 at approximately 9.45
a.m.
NOTE: Should all current occupants vacate the premises for whatever
reason, you, as owner,shall not allow this dwelling to be re-let until all
violations noted above have been addressed and have been corrected to
the work (building, gas, & elec ri al)has been approved by the Northampton
Building Department.
