Subject: 245 South Street Map 38B 1ot67, unauthorized apartment in attic, status of
building permit#BP-99-1036
Mr. Niedzwiec,
An inspector from this office was called to 245 South Street December 26, 2000 on a
complaint regarding the use of the attic- The inspector found in the attic what appeared to
be living quarters, mattresses, and other materials that gave the impression that the attic
had been converted into an apartment and that people were sleeping there. The area is not
insulated, does not have the proper number of means of egress and windows are not
emergency exit windows. I have left several messages for you on your home phone and
as of today I have not received a return call from you to explain the use of the attic.
I have reviewed your file and found that the building permit that was issued to you, for
the repair of the foundation, replacing support beam and lolly column, build new knee
walls in attic, repair roof, chimney and fire escape, has not had any inspections and
remains open. If no work has been performed the building permit will have expired.
Please contact this office to explain what the use is in the attic and to explain the status of
the building permit.
