She came into the office concerned about possible code violations in the apartment. The apartment has only one means of egress which is a violation of Mass. Buildings Code CMR Article 8 section 809.2 minimum number of exits required. The file for 118 Main Street contains permits taken out for renovations to the bakery (1977) , alterations for office space (1978-79) , woodstove installation (1981) , alterations to existing bakery (1986) , sign permit (1987) and lastly a permit for an air conditioning rack in 1988. The file contains no permits taken out for construction or renovations to the rental apartment located on the second floor. The apartment located at 118 Main Street second floor is in violation of the following State Building Codes: 1. Article 8 section 809.2 - Lack of second means of egress 2. Article 113.1 - Work performed without permits & change of use. I am forwarding a copy of the file to the Board of Health to take action to prevent risk of injury or loss of life to any possible tenant of this apartment until the violations are corrected. Mozesz uzyskac tlumaczenie teo dokumentu w ofisie: Northampton Board of Health City Hall, 210 Main Street Northampton, MA 01060 Tel #: (413) 586-6950 x214 118 MAIN STREET, (2nd Floor Apt.), NORTHAMPTON The Northampton Board of Health is in receipt of a report from Assistant Building Commissioner Anthony Patillo, dated August 1, 1994 (copy attached), which indicates that the second floor apartment in a building owned by you at 118 Main Street, Northampton (assessor's map 32C, parcel lot 10) lacks a second means of egress. This condition violates Section 410.450 of the State Sanitary Code, 105 CMR 410.000, Chapter II. Under authority of Chapter III, Section 127 of the Massachusetts General Law, you are hereby ordered to provide a second means of egress which is in compliance with the State Building Code Requirements prior to the apartment being reoccupied. Do not rent the apartment until you have obtained a permit from the Northampton Building Inspector to construct a second means of egress at 118 Main Street and you have completed the installation of same and obtained approval from the Northampton Building Inspector.
