APPROVAL OF PROPOSAL
Dear Mr. Hellis:
The Department of Environmental Protection, Bureau of Waste Site Cleanup,
Emergency Response Section ("the Department") received a proposal on October 21,
1994 for the approval of an Immediate Response Action (IRA) Plan for the U.S.
Veteran's Administration Hospital located at 421 N. Main Street in Northampton,
Massachusetts.
The IRA Plan was prepared and submitted in your behalf by Tighe & Bond Engineers,
Inc. of Westfield. The Plan includes previously approved IRAs and additional IRA
activities. On August 22, 1994, the Department gave verbal approval to you for
implementation of the IRA. The submission of the IRA Plan stating all completed
activities satisfies regulatory requirements outlined in the Massachusetts
Contingency Plan 310 CMR 40.0420.
The Department approves of the submitted IRA Plan without condition. If you have
any questions regarding this letter, please contact Ben Fish of the Regional
Emergency Response Section at the above address or 413-784-1100 ext. 285.
