Good Afternoon Merridith,
We received the email below from Greg Sandler this morning. He originally wrote to us about removing the trash
at the curb. The DPW reached out to the landlord who said he would handle it. I guess the landlord's way of
handling this trash was to move it out of sight. Mr. Sandler is now claiming this to be a public health and safety
issue. Is this something you could look into?
Thanks,
Bridget

Subject: Accumulated trash behind garage at 236 South Street,
To: mayor @northamptonma.gov
David,
Deb @ DPW followed up on the issue of trash that was left on the curb in front of 236 South Street.
Unfortunately, the trash was simply moved so that it is now laying in the right-of-way between the
back of my building @3 Olive St and the garage @236 South Street.
See Pic 1
This joins a pile of trash and yard debris (pits 2 and 3)that has been piled behind and
next to the garage for more than year.
I believe this abandoned trash poses a public health and safety threat as well as a potential fire hazard(the tenants
at 236 South have a portable fire pit that can be seen on second floor porch).
In my opinion, the trash, which has accumulated for the past year, is a breeding ground for mosquitos and
rodents--both of which pose potential threats to human health and safety.
It also is a fire hazard, particularly with the piles of organic debris that has also been in the yard since last Fall.
Please consider this a formal complaint to address these public health and safety issues.

Subject: Please have the trash removed from the curb @ 236 South Street
After six weeks out there, I don't think anyone wants this stuff.
Also, I have a real question:
At what point is the property owner held accountable for trash left on the curbside?
