RE:Tenant/Landlord arrangement for apartment at 95 N.Main Street,Florence,MA 01062.
Dear Mr.Ernest Mathieu
On December 21,2004,1 moved in an apartment arranged by Suzanne&Co. P.O.Box 131
Northampton,MA 01060 and rented by Linda&Bernie LaFlam on 97 N.Main Street,Florence,
MA 01062.I experienced difficulties from the moment I moved in. Below is a list of some of the
problems I experienced since I entered into a tenant-landlord relationship with Linda&Bernie
LaFlam.
The wrong address for the residence was given to me by Natalie,a representative of Suzanne
&Co. She gave me the address of 97 N.Main Street,Florence MA 01062... however,the
correct address was 95 N.Main Street,Florence MA 01062.This created great confusion
regarding my gas bill.1 had to change the address with the gas company once 1 realized that
there was a problem regarding the wrong address.
2 The Shower switch wasn't working properly,when the switch in the shower was adjusted so
the water flow from the shower only,the water would flow from both the faucet and the
shower at the same time.Roto Rooter man told Bernie that he might have to take the whole
thing out from the wall as the water pressure is so strong and somehow it leaks. Bernie didn't
want him to fix it as it would cost him additional SI50 or more after this Roto Rooter man
had done a repair on my clogged toilet on the same night.So Bernie tried himself at least
twice,but he was never able to fix it.
3. Gas heater in the Master bedroom was cold as ice from the day one.Bernie came and fixed it
but it wasn't working properly,I mentioned him again and he thought he could get a help
from his plumber friend,but he was sick with flu,so he brought another plumber on the 29'".
That plumber turned down two radiators,out of 6 in the apartment,and set them for the
lowest temperature setting.Bernie and the plumber said that it would work just give it some
time.However,two days later I began to get heat,but only momentarily and intermittently;
so most of the time I went to bed with 3-4 layers of clothing to keep myself warm every
night until I left the apartment on January 22,2005.
4. The stairs that leads to my 2nd floor door is made of wood and is not carpeted.So it was
, slippery.On December 29,2004,I asked Bernie to put something on to prevent me from
falling down in case He told me he had bought the stuff to put it on,but he didn't actually put
it on until after I had fallen halfway down the stairs on Monday,January 10,2005.He fixed it
two days later on Wednesday,January 12,2005 on his day off from his work.
5. As there are no doors leading to the living room, I asked Bernie to install the doors for me.
The rooms were very airy and not energy efficient room.I even asked him to take the closet
doors off and use them if they fit.He came back with a tape measure and measured the size
of the entries to the living room.But as he found out that I'd be moving out,he never
bothered to put the doors on for me. My apartment was cold most of the time since the heat
did not work efficiently or properly. I had to keep myself warm by literally physically
leaning onto the heater.
6. The kitchen sink got clogged around January 2,2005,and I told Linda about it
right away,but he did not come to fix it until January 6,2005 and couldn't complete it till
January 8,2005.as he had to rent some tools from a store in Springfield.
During that time,I had to carry water back and forth from the bathroom to use for cooking
and doing dishes in the tiny shallow sink in the bathroom
7. I mentioned Linda about the Left front burner on the stove wasn't working.1 told her this
when I mentioned the clogged kitchen sink. She told me that she would let Bernie come and
check it,but he never came and checked it.He was either too busy at work or forgot.
He didn't seem to care to repair anything unless it was absolutely necessary.
8. On the night of January.21,2005,I was carrying out a box to the new apartment,I was
careful going down the stairs outside the door„but it was icy,and I slipped and hurt my
right foot so badly.The landlord's family rarely uses their front door as they have a side
door,so I'm the only one entering and exiting from the front door.
The irresponsibility of Suzanne&Co.and the negligence and lack of proper maintenance by the
landlord made my one month stay at this apartment hard to live comfortably,since there was
something wrong all of the time.To make the matters worse,the Gas company told me that my
gas bill was over$282 for only one month.The plumber told me to keep the thermostat at a
lower setting,but according to the gas company,that's not the case.Since the gas can not be shut
off, it will always be on no matter what and the gas usage cannot be controlled at all.
Landlady and landlord are hard to reach by phone and when I knocked on their door.Even when
I left messages,they called me back only once.

iur attention some violations of Chapter II of the State Sanitary Code,which are stated in her letter,
