Fire Alarm to be installed at this project.
1.0 Occupancy:
A. The Basement is a Compact Book Storage Arca with a moderate hazard
occupancy per NEPA 13.
B. There are other areas of the Basement classified as Scrvice/011icc Roonis
which are designated light hazard occupancy per Nl-PA 13.
C. Upper Levels — Existing Physical Plant Offices & Warehouse.
2.0 Installation:
A. The fire sprinkler system is designed in accordance with NEPA 13 1996,
B. Sprinkler System Description.
I. The Basement Boo{ Storage facility is equipped with a dry pre-
action sprinkler syst0n.
2. The fire sprinklers are listed extended range type.
3 Combustible concealed spaces are equipped with sprinklers
C. The fire alarm system is designed in accordance with NFPA-72.

1. The entire Basement', compact Book Storage facility is equipped
throughout with a system of heat and smoke detection, manual pull
station and audio and visual alarms.
2. The sprinkler system flow and tamper switches are connected to
the fire alarm system.''
3.0 Equipment
A. Pipe is to be black iron schedule 40 for size I" — 2". Pipe is to be black
iron schedule 10 for sizes 2 '4"-6".
B. A Watts 709 Double Check I)ackflow Preventor is installed at the entrance
of the underground service btought into the building.
C. A Viking "Total-Pak" pre-action dry pipe valve is installed to service the
Basement.
D. A new Viking Model "Y wet alarm valve replacing the existing valve
which feeds the upper levels.''
E. A 2 '/2 x 2 '/2 x 4 Fire Department Valve is provided for the fire sprinkler
system. It is located in the front of the building.
F. A main flow switch is provided in the sprinkler room.
G. Fire alarm control panel will be located on the 1"` floor adjacent to the
electrical service entrance. All new devices are connected to this panel.
4.0 Design Criteria
A. The Basement compact Book Storage is designed for ordinary hazard
occupancy, Group 1.
B. The density is .15/1500 square foot with a 100 gpm hose stream
allowance.
