You have informed me that the intended use of the proposed new overhead storage is for beer and wine storage. 1 have review the architectural drawings that you have provided me dated 9/4/15. The general proposed overhead storage configuration consists of 4'-0" wide x 3'-2" deep x 2'-0"tall plywood storage boxes. These storage boxes shall be placed upon a 3/a" plywood shelf and supported by "Hafele 287.45.495" steel brackets located above refrigerated storage. The bottom of the new storage boxes is roughly 7'-6" above the finished floor. Given the dimensions of the proposed storage boxes I estimate that the maximum loading condition maybe (18) 12-bottle, 19 %"x 13" x 6 %" wood wine cases each weighing 40 pounds. This results in a 200 pound per linear foot loading along the proposed new shelf assembly that will support the new overhead storage boxes. Note that no additional items will be placed upon the top of the new proposed storage boxes. On September 15, 2015 I visited the address indicated above to observe the existing structure and to discuss the new overhead storage requirements. This structure is conforms to type 2-b construction. All new wood blocking and plywood associated with the new overhead storage assemblies will need to be fire treated lumber. The north elevation on sheet A-3 1 depicts 12 overhead storage boxes. These boxes shall be supported by 16 gauge steel stud wall and 2x4 fire treated wood blocking. See the attached sketch SkI for details. The east elevation on sheet A-302 depicts 4 overhead storage boxes. These storage boxes shall be supported by 5 structural steel posts. See the attached sketches Sk2 andSk3 for details. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions. Respectfully, d Jacob it gineering and Design W . l3v Jacob F. Smith. Alterations (new construction) shall comply with the International Energy Conservation Code. A building that undergoes Level 2 alterations is required to meet a certain level of energy compliance. Where there are reconfigurations of the space or new doors or windows, any such new element is required to meet the International Energy Conservation Code. Elements within the building that are not being affected do not heed to be evaluated and do not nee to comply with the energy provisions. Essentially the entire building is not required to meet the energy provisions; only a degree of possible improvement in the energy performance of the building is intended to be achieved by making the new elements meet the IECC. In certain cases where the reconfiguration of the space might have resulted in the creation of new spaces the newly created space should be evaluated as a whole for compliance with the energy provisions even though some of the element within the space might actually not have been altered. Likewise, in a case where an existing mechanical system is being extended to other areas or new ductwork is being installed to reconfigure and reroute the ducts to various spaces, it is only required to have the new elements meet the energy provisions and not the entire system. 4 Renovations to River Valley Co-op Thomas Douglas Architects, Inc. 330 North King Street 196 Pleasant Street Northampton, MA 01060 Northampton, MA 01060 413.585.0641 Fire Resistive - Required Types of Construction,Table 601 IBC Building Element Type 2B Primary Structural Frame 0 Bearing walls, Exterior 0 Bearing walls, Interior. 0 Nonbearing walls and 0 artitions, exterior Nonbearing walls and artitions, interior 0 Floor construction and 0 secondary members Roof construction and 0 secondary members Level 1-work requirements:The removal and replacement or the covering of existing materials, elements, equipment or fixtures using new materials, elements, equipment or fixtures that serves the same purpose This Project will have new interior walls, replacement windows, finishes and lighting. 602.1 Interior finishes:All newly installed wall and ceiling finishes shall comply with the IBC.
