RE Airport Storage building
Flood control issues
Dear Dick,
Interior boAgn
The project drawings Al ,fit A2 show the WAD construction method and the
anchoring means to enable this building to both produce a minimurn or
flood dispersion in addition to having both tk means.to prevent dislodging
of the structure and an inability to even f1bat without being totally reduced
to a loose pile of material.
The floor and roof trusses arc well above the lower level where only a
concrete slab exists. The building would not.float if torn from the anchors
as it has no lower floor to create buoyancy,
The anchors are sufficient to wig the type and velocity of flood waters
that could reach the building. As long as titie'diagwW bracing in created as
drawn, the building will withstand the horizoaW water pressure over S fcGt
above slab level.
The volume of weer dispersion rni 00 4UO to the fact that the wall
materials including the insulation are taxi'.' wall will t311 up with Nvatcr
leaving the displacement to only the plywood sheet rock and sitting,
thicknesses that are below a potential want level. The amount is +-28 stl
ft. of area and it dwefore=28 cu. it. for awry foot ofwatet depth above
slab in its displacement.
If you need any more help please.call.
Sincerely,
Tris Metcalfe
