Dear Richard and Diana,
Thank you for having the red Dodge van towed away. I also appreciate your efforts to comply
with the zoning ordinance by registering the dump truck, the van, the pickup and one of the covered
vehicles.
There are, however, other sections of the zoning ordinance that regulate parking locations in a
residential zone. Specifically, Chapter 350, §8.8 (D), in part, states "Parking shall not be located within rive
feet from the front lot line for residential uses,.........For all residential uses.................parking for more than two
vehicles shall not be permitted within the front yard setback."
The right-of-way along Brookside Circle is 60' for most of the street. The front setback for URA,
water supply protection (your zone) is 30'. The Department of Public Works will locate your front lot line
and put in a stake, but it is safe to assume that the line is 30' from the center of the road. Adding the
restrictions from the 350, §8.8 (D), parking is not allowed within 35" of the center of the road, and only 2
vehicles may be parked within 60' of the road center.
I am happy to help you lay out the approximate lot line and the setback lines. If you would like to
have the DPW locate your front lot line, let me know and I will arrange it.
Please make arrangements to move vehicles out of the restricted areas, and let me know how
and when you plan to do this. Please feel free to call if you have any questions.
You may contact me at the building department. Our telephone number is 587-1240 and our
office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, excepting that we close at 12:00 noon on
Wednesdays. My email address is: Ihasbrouck c-)city.northampton.ma.us.
Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
