Preferably Preserved NotificationNORTHAMPTON HISTORICAL COMMISSION CITY HALL 210 MAIN STREET NORTHAMPTON, MASSACHUSETTS 01060 CITY HALL William Fenno Pratt Architect, 1849 July 31, 2013 Louis Hasbrouck Northampton Building Commissioner Puchalski Municipal Building 212 Main Street Northampton, MA 01060 RE: Historical Commission demolition review, 66 and 70 Paradise Road Parcels 31C -14 and 31C -13 Dear Louis: In accordance with Chapter 161 of the Northampton Ordinance, "Demolition," the Historical Commission held public hearings July 29 to determine whether 66 and 70 Paradise Road should be "Preferably Preserved." The Commission voted that it would "be in the public interest to be preserved rather than demolished," and a demolition delay of up to one year was enacted. Unless the Historical Commission approves an alternate plan, a demolition permit may not be issued for the structure until June 19, 2014. Demolition may proceed within the year period if the Commission determines that the intent and purpose of the demolition review ordinance is served despite demolition; or that there is no feasible option for the building's preservation. The Commission agreed that a plan for architectural salvage and photo documentation prior to demolition would constitute an acceptable alternate plan for the buildings, Activity Tracking Sheets are enclosed.
