Hello Mr. Hasbrouck,
The objective for the high tunnel at 120 West Farms Rd. include raising both berries and vegetables for local
distribution. My previous experience managing a berry harvest and distribution, as well as my sisters claim
that it is often difficult to source local produce leads me to believe this is a viable business project. I have
been weeding and amending the soil, and hope to commence construction this fall
The high tunnel involves no foundations or permanent piers but rather it is a modular unit which is attached to
the soil by pounding metal pipes into the soil, and fastening them to wooden runner boards along the base.
I intend to generate several thousand dollars per season, starting in 2014.

Dan,
I'm going over the application for a greenhouse at 120 West Farms Rd. I need some more information. It looks
like it could be allowed if it is an agricultural use (as defined by zoning), but I'll need more information about the
type of operation. You've also shown it close to a stream that runs along the north edge of the property. You'd
need a permit from the conservation commission for activity in the buffer zone.
Call me so we can go over the specifics.

Dear Mr. Verson,
I have reviewed the zoning permit application submitted on July 19, 2013. I have approved the
application for a greenhouse. Your proposal meets the City of Northampton requirements for
agricultural use.
The Massachusetts State Building Code does not require a building permit for greenhouses
covered exclusively with plastic film intended for agricultural use. The structure you propose meets that
criteria so will not require a building permit.
It appears that the location you have proposed for the greenhouse is within 100' of the small
stream on the north side of the property. You will need a permit from the Conservation Commission if
you plan to do any work in the 100' buffer.
